Today in History: Dudley

Shavar Ross was born in the South Bronx, New York. In Hollywood, Shavar's father took him to a play in which a young Kim Fields starred in, before she got huge breasts. After the play, Shavar was immediately noticed by a Hollywood talent agent. She told Shavar's father that he should seriously consider doing commercials and becoming an actor. Evelyn gave him her business card and Shavar literally became an overnight sensation.   The pressure to be DUDLEY eventually started to wear on Shavar, and he turned to Gary Coleman.  Coleman coule relate to the pressure, because he was secretly fed sedetives and growth-inhibiting drugs designed to create minature ponies.

In early 1980, Shavar was cast out of more that 250 children to play Gary Coleman's best friend on the hit NBC show Diff'rent Strokes in which he eventually shot over 40 episodes.  The precocious youngster fresh off smoking a fat spliff with Gary (Above Pic), screamed at his agent to get him more damn plotlines in Diff'rent Strokes.  Shavar wanted to add more depth to the character sweeping the nation as DUDLEY.  The agent, who had been burned badley when shavar threw scalding hot earl grey tea at him out of anger, eventually recovered, and set out to get hsi client meatier roles.

Dudley next appeared in the very special "The Bicycle Man" episode, which originally aired in 1983 and was perhaps the most famous of all of the Diff'rent Strokes episodes. In that episode, Dudley and Arnold Jackson were befriended by a Mr. Horton, a bicycle repair shop owner who preferred to be called "Curly."* Arnold and Dudley went to the Mr. Horton's shop after school one day and Mr. Horton quickly took Arnold and Dudley in a room in the back and fed them and gave them wine to drink.  Arnold fell asleep, and a drunk, bi-curious DUDLEY soon took his shirt off.

After the passionate lovemaking in the shed behind the shop, Curly gave shavar a few bucks, and a bike horn that went AHH OOOH GAH.  Shavar had fallen ASS-BACKWARDS (Pun Intended) into a profitable side job, which he keeps to this day.  In later years Shavar starred in over 100 episodes on various television programs and has appeared in over 40 commercials. He's starred in many film and television shows such as Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Family Matters. Producers had originally wanted him in the role that Leonardo Di Caprio ended up playing on Growing Pains, but the fact was that the world was not ready to see DUDLEY as a whiney white kid.  The fact was DUDLEY was black.  DUDLEY's shirtlessness was noticed by calvin klien, and he was to be the model for the underwear Marky Mark Whalberg eventually became.  I will not post pics of a shirtless DUDLEY, for fear that Ismael Julio Lopez will crash my site with repeated views, so instead look at this pic of gary feel the sexual tension between DUDLEY and Curly, and leave to sleep off the pinot nior in the next room.

DUDLEY (As he had legally changed his name) bounced around for years, making terrible music, writing generic poetry, and trying a short-lived career as the lead for a rap group called The Gavediggaz.  They were the pioneering group in the genre of horrorcore rap music.  Later, his career found a second wind as BLADE in the vampire flick BLADE, where he played BLADE, a half-human vampire.  As a nod to his early career fame, he wears a vest that exposes his chest.  DUDLEY's fans will also note that his car horn in the movie makes the " aaah ooh gah"  sound.

"He quickly grew tired of the same material," said Oscar Award Winning thespian, and fellow cast-mate Forrest Whitaker, better known as The GOOCH.  "he was always looking to do more."

Forrest was right, and DUDLEY soon left the BLADE movies to his friend and fellow GRAVEDIGGA, Sticky Fingaz, who had seen his rap group ONYX, disband.  Sticky then ran the franchise into the ground with shitty plotlines about heaven and vampires and such.

After the death of his father, Shavar became a born-again Christian at the age of 40 years old. Shavar attended bible college at The Ministry Training Institute, an auxiliary of Crenshaw Christian Center in Los Angeles. After 4 years of ministry training,DUDLEY founded and pastored a non-denominational church in Hollywood, California called The Alive Church in 1996.  Occasionally, Curly and Gary will call, and the three will get together for quiet intimate bible sessions, faith-healing, and amatuer film-making.  DUDLEY has since experienced a 3rd wind, as he has most recently been seen as the spokesperson for Old Spice High Endurance brand products.  he is the black dude who rides a horse backwards on a beach.
