For my students

Hello dear readers and a very special hello to my students,

I have decided to write this blog because you are alll bunch of wussies. You constantly make excuses for poor performances, lack of effort, or general mediorcrity. You all kick rocks and stare at your feet and say "I am doing the best with what I am given." I am here to tell you that you are lying to the world, to your friends, and worst of all, to yourself.

Arnel Pineda was born in the Phillipines, which in itself is rough, and grew up poor. His dad had a meager job, and the family lived in a car. The family entertainment was the radio which often played Journey songs. The family was so poor that when they were able to afford luxuries like bread, Arnel had to put it under his arm to keep it warm so it would not get hard and stale. At the tender age of 12, Arnel decided to ease his dad's burden, so he left the family to fend for himself. he got jobs as a waiter, and often sung for his supper, he joined many poor ill-fated bands, until he joined a half-way decent band. Thge band recoreded a few songs, but not enough to earn a living. Arnel bounced around from band to band, job to job. Whenever he would perform and the crowd would begin to boo, Arnel would quickly belt out a Journey song from his childhood. his voice was almost an identical match for original vocalist Steve Perry. The band int he U.S, was forwarded a youtube video of a short Phillipino man singing Journey tunes. They decided to try him out for the band.

The band had some material they wanted to record, but the only thing missing was a vocalist. They decided to reach out to Arnel and try him out, but the tryout was in the U.S. Arnel borrowed, begged, and gathered enough money to buy a ticket. At the airport, they authorities did not buy his story of a Journey audition, so Arnel actually had to stand on a table in the Phillipine airport and sing, just to convince authorities not to revoke his passport. Once Journey heard Arnel and saw him perform, thet offered him the job. The band recoreded some songs, and set out to start a small tour.

Journey was invited to perform at Chile's Vina Del Mar interntional music festival. The Vina Del Mar is an amazing event where performers sing, and then stand to be judged by the audience. "El Monstro," translated means "The Monster," judges wether performers get a gold plate, silver plate, golden harp or silver seagull. Silver being more popular in Chile than gold, means more. Journey would perform old and new material, and the crowd would be able to boo them off at any moment. The Vina Del Mar often meant that a silver seagull winner had instant credibility in Latin America, and can make or break a band's career. This would be Arnel's first big concert with Journey.

Needless to say Arnel worked hard to prepare, and eventually won over the crowd with his high-powered vocals. Arnel went from poor, homeless boy, to lead singer of one of the biggest bands ever through hard work and a little luck. So you will have to excuse me my students, if do not accept your lame excuses as to why your grades suck. "I was too tired to go to class," just does not seem to cut it after reading a story like Arnel's. You say "The teacher is horrible," I hear: "The teacher does not spoon feed me the information." I have seen your textbooks, and most of them do not even have creases from normal opening and closing. So they next time you fail your coursework and you ask for another chance, I will go to this blog, and click this link.
